"The scientific admits that his work is uncertain, that it is temporary; he knows that positive science is by its very nature a process whose competition is out of the question. Hence the fundamental contradiction between positive knowledge, which is demonstrated but incomplete, and religious knowledge, which was not demonstrated but did provide answers to fundamental questions- questions that according to Weber, can be answered today only by a personal decision at once arbitrary and unconditional."
